What false hope means
There’s a certain character that lurks around school who has been in Meridian for 2 years and is set to take on the third. No names, just a rant about how revolting his ideals are and how much he pontificates his opinions about and particularly about how he sees retaining as…not such a bad thing.
We came into Meridian Junior College, the butt of all jokes of retaining, knowing full well how much of a chance there was of retaining. Pre-conceived perceptions, accusations flew about Meridian students who were just busy getting promoted. Obviously the character I’m speaking of didn’t try hard enough the first time.
His first crime? Making retaining seem like something every meridian has to go through once in their life, as if a rite of passage. After my mid-years, I remember saying to David that I wanted to try my best instead of just trying to promote because I didn’t want to be like typical meridians who lived by not doing well for regular tests but doing marginably fine for the promotional exams. I didn’t do the former but I did the latter!
The student leader hierarchy in Meridian works like this.
4th-tier: CG chairpersons
3rd-tier: CCA leaders
2nd-tier: House leaders
1st-tier: Councillors
I respect this tier and once I championed equality of the student body in TKSS thinking and believing in those wonderful idealistic intentions of communism; of equality. I now recognize that such a fine equilibrium cannot exist, thus the existence of the leader pyramid. He intends to disrupt this social hierarchy by introducing an RC.
A retaining committee.
Amonst the 35 house committee members, there were a considerable number who did not make it to J2, and because of this, he proposes this retaining committee. Now, two things are wrong with this idea.
1. He intends to hold the “rally & elections” for this house committee in the middle of council “rally & elections” and boasts that it would be better than the council ones. Take note, he was an alumni of the council until he himself got retained. Turning your back on the very institution that put you in your rightful place of meridian society isn’t the best thing to do when what you want to do is to establish another one. This says so much about the belief you place in something.
2. He himself has promoted! As if to rub it in the face of those who got retained, he assumes a pioneering role, a leadership position amonst the retainess of which, he is not actually a part of because he is J2 in year 2009. A leader should empathize yes, but a leader should go through everyone of those struggles his followers are going through at that point of time!
And on a side note he called a friend a “bad muslim”. If only people knew what lay on the other side of your body, Iago to the max siolz.
So if you’re reading this, stop making it seem like retaining is not such a bad thing because it’s not. You lose your sight of friends in school, you lose a year of life, and you lose the intent to go through junior college on a 2 year curriculum. And anyway, focus on your studies, I hope to see your name on the screen March 2010 instead of Meridian history.
