I know Huiqi beat me to it recommending songs for this season but hey, I uploaded stuff…so you wouldn’t have to go around finding it.

Gold In The Air Of Summer- Kings Of Convenience
Now who could ever resist anything from the Kings of Convenience? Chose to start off the summer mix with a rather soothing song, something slow you know…something that signifies the transition from spring to summer and how gradual it is. So very relaxing.

Off Broadway- Ryan Adams
I know summer’s not exactly the season for suicide but disregarding the fact that the song is from an album called “suicide handbook”, it is pretty good. I remember listening to it in my dad’s car as he drove over that giant flyover near suntec…such a good driving song and so very americana. For those dreamers who think Singapore don’t cut it.

One Kiss Don’t Make A Summer-Lucky Soul
This one’s dumb. Lucky Soul’s singer has such a cutesy voice it gets sickening after awhile but this song is perfect for the mood. And obviously how summer loves are mere infatuations and truly, one kiss don’t make my summer! warm, bubbly song!

 Postcards From Italy- Beirut
This was quite a big indie hit back when it was first release and I didn’t fancy it much because it didn’t fit anything one would feel in Singapore but now…ahh the mandola (or whatever the fuck you call that bloody high pitch guitar thingy) ad his slurry voice, it makes sense. So perfect for summer and Italy, summer is always there!

 Girls In Their Summer Dresses- The Airborne Toxic Event
Once again, the word summer made me want to hear it and hear it I did, I did. Wonderfully upbeat, happy songs and the singer sooooo very sounds like Jen Leksman, but it’s all good. Slurry voices and happy beats= summmer fun!

Carnival Town- Norah Jones
Eh…I remember Grace and Sophia insisting that she was boring. Well, this song more than reinforces that fact but it’s nostalgic flavour more then makes up for it. The harmonies, the folk guitar, the piano all blend perfectly to form the perfect dish for summer!
 
Magic In The Air- Badly Drawn Boy
Since when has this singer songwriter ever failed us? Summer is the season of love, warmth and coolnesss and like he mentions, it certainly brings about the Magic In The Air. Though I think he might have been talking about something else btu let’s just assume its this season we’re talking about.

 Besame Mucho- Lisa Ono
This one is a slightly different arrangement of the original Besame Mucho but done by Lisa Ono, it sounds great anyway and latin jazz! Who can ever stand up and say summer is NOT about latin jazz. The latin practically came up with the idea of summer, hot bikinis and waaxees!

Juicy- Better Than EzraYou may find this one familiar because it was used in some desperate housewives commerical and there’s no other way apt enough to describe sentosa on a hot June holiday day. It was great fun, especially the Ben and Jerry girl. Ok, anyway this is for all the times you see a hot bod, be it boy or girl  and there’s only one word to describe it: J-J-J-Juicy.

Je T’aime- Francoise HardyEy, Francoise Hardy. I have quite a few of her songs and each one is so frenchy in nature so I’ll just put up one here. The french are great at making hot days feel even hotter… think cheesy guitar riffs, french you don’t understand, and silly harmonies and voila! Bon Appetit!

Rasputin- Boney MNo link but….I couldn’t resist. Boney M WERE the 70s!

Walking On Sunshine- Katrina and The WavesRemember the M1 commericals, the sunshine, the happiness, the bouncing around with a phone in your hand! Aye, the songs of walking on sunrays by Katrina and The Waves. You can just hear the drum beat when you stand by the beach, and just feel like dancing about, wheeee!

Dakota-StereophonicsTo end things off, tis’ the ultimate summer anthem. Kelly Jones’ gravelly voice, the warped guitar tone, the steady drummer beat…so many memories of June rushing back to me. I still remember the video of the girl in her underwear with a shirt jumping around on the bed. bloody iconic for summer.
