Chapter Thirty One: Bad Luck
Luck hasn’t been on my side ever since…ever.
Just the other day I was relating my story of jaywalking (getting fined in the process)
To go to work, I usually take the 15 all the way to Eunos MRT. I get down jaywalk across the big ass road with the rest of the jaywalkers and then walk al the way to the MRT.
Somehow that day was different. I get down from the bus and there was no one jaywalking across the road (like they usually do). I look to my right and people were actually using the pedestrian crossing.
So I jaywalked across the road anyway and ran in the process with this one other woman.
And lo and behold who I see on the other side of the road! A policeman and a policewoman. First two words that came to my mind, “Oh fuck”. Literally.
Then the woman asked for my IC, lectured me for 5-10 minutes (I was running late for work, and went Oh fuck again) and took down my address. Now I’m 20 dollars poorer due to the fine. Sorry, I mean negative 20 dollars poorer, why?
Yesterday, the manager gave me 5o bucks to buy stuff from Carrefour. So I took it, went out and by the time I reach the escalator out of Citylink, I duginto my pockets and realised that the 50 bucks was not there. It was rush hour so I had to keep moving and even if I did backtrack, I still wouldn’t have found it. Singaporeans aren’t the kind to leave 50 dollars lying on the ground. I know I’d pick it up.
So I had to take out what money I had left in my account (60) and reimburse the company.
So 60-50= 10 left right.
After work went to top up my ez-link using NETS and apparently you can’t empty your account fully. I remember the exact balance was 10.92. They didn’t allow me to top up 10, only 5. So now I have 5 dollars eternally stuck inside the account. I have to survive on 5.31 of MRT fare till 31 December.
Then another stroke of bad luck for me. I fell asleep on the last train to Pasir Ris and ended up at Pasir Ris at 12.45 going “Fuck, fuck, fuck” in my mind because I usually stop at Tampines and walk home.
I had half a mind to call my cousin and sleep over at her house first because I was almost certain lost at Pasir Ris Interchange. But salvation or more of God’s pity was at hand and there was a bus number service 3 to Tampines. So I reached Tampines Interchange and walked home. I reached home at 2am.
So now my legs are tired, my mind is numb, I don’t have money and uh…my mum is bugging me for the Gilmore Girls CDs.
I can’t even buy Christmas cards for people. God, why? There better be something good up your sleeve waiting for me, please. Please, please, please.
